DIRECTIONS: Sift flour, soda, and salt together. Cream shortening and peanut butter, gradually adding the sugars. Add egg, milk and vanilla. Blend in dry ingredients. Mix well. Shape into balls, roll in granulated sugar and bake on cookie sheet (ungreased) for 8 minutes at 375 degrees. Remove from the oven. Please a chocolate star or a Hershey's kiss on each cookie, pressing down so they crack around the edge. Bake 2-5 minutes longer.
Mom's Memory:
When my mom was a child she would make these cookies with her mother. She grew up in Minnesota and it was very cold in December. She told me the story about when she would go out to huge hill behind her house with her brothers and sister during winter break. They pulled their toboggans to the top of the hill and would fly down. The cold would freeze their sweaty hair and eyelashes. After hours of playing outside, building forts and snowmen, would would trek back into the house, with frozen hands and feet. My grandma, their mom, would have these cookies cooling on the cookie rack and a warm glass of hot cocoa ready for them! Yum!
Becky's Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies
My mom has made these Christmas cookies since I can remember. They are chewy on the inside, but crisp on the outside. They are great!
